How to Prepare your Art for Hanging
A proper presentation enhances the best qualities of any artwork while a poor presentation detracts. Check online for helpful tutorial videos or reach out to us for help.
• Works on deep gallery wrapped canvases (1 1⁄2” minimum depth with no exposed staples) need not be framed but must have all edges neatly sealed and painted as follows: Either extend the painted image to cover all 4 exposed sides OR paint all 4 exposed sides neatly in either white or a dark color that complements the work..
• Frame moldings vary in style and quality. Avoid over-powering your art with framing materials that distract from the work visually.
• Two-dimensional works on paper should be matted, framed and covered with glass or plexiglass. (Alternative: Works on paper may be mounted on board and properly sealed.)
• Mats should be cleanly cut and appropriately proportionate for the work being framed. Frame, mat, glass and paper backing (dust cover) should reflect a clean, professional presentation.
• All work must be presented ready-to-hang, with D-rings and wire attached to the frame one-third of the way down the sides of the piece with minimal ‘slack’. Stainless steel picture wire works best.
• DO NOT use saw tooth hangers o DO NOT use screw eyes-scratches wall and weakens frame ▪ DO NOT use spring clips • DO NOT use standing photo frames
Fill out Artist Information Label and attach securely to the back of each of your submitted artwork.
